RUSSIFICATION of NETSCAPE NAVIGATORS
HOW YOU CAN TEACH YOUR COMPUTER TO UNDERSTAND RUSSIAN
In this short and simple manual I am following the very clear and understandable article Cyrillic for MS Windows Netscape by Paul Gorodyansky. The method described in this article allows you to russify all parts of Netscape Navigators v. 2.0, 2+, and 3.0, including Mail, News, Forms, Bookmarks, and even View/DocumentSource.
If you want to know how this method works, to understand all details, including reading Windiws 1251 texts, features of version 2.02, and much more, you have to read a full text of this article (through links in Section 4).
To russify your Netscape Navigator browser by the easiest way, you must:
SECTION 1:
DOWNLOADING and INSTALLING FONTS in WINDOWS
1. Downloading bilingual Russian-English fonts, so-called KOI-8 fonts.
You must download at least two fonts: proportional and fixed.
To do that, click
After clicking your computer begin to download file ForWWW.zip.
Unzip this file by the usual way in separate directory.
2. Installing proportional and fixed fonts to Windows.
To do that choose two fonts from that new directory,
Proportional: Arial-Relcom (Atial-like) or ER-Bukinist KOI-8 NORMAL(more fancy) and
Fixed: Rol-K8/Courier
and install them to Windows by the usual way.
SECTION 2:
READING

3. Install these fonts in your Netscape Navigator.
Click on Netscape Navigator icon to install Navigator;

Click on Option;
Click on General Preferences
Click on Font
Click on For the Encoding area
Click on Latin2

Click on UPPER (Proportional Font Area) Choose Font...
In Font area click on Arial Relcom (or ER-Bukinist KOI-8)

In Font Style area click on KOI-8 Cyrillic (or Regular for ER-Bukinist KOI-8)
In Size area click on 12 ;
Click on upper OK
Click on LOWER (Fixed Font Area) Choose Font... button
In Font area click on ROL-K8/Courier ;

In Font Style area click on Regular
In Size area click on 10 ;
Click on OK
Click on OK in the bottom of page to close Options
4. Change Encoding .
Click on Options to open it;
Click on General Preferences to open it;
Click on Document Encoding to open it;
Click on Central European (Latin2)

Click on Options to open it again;
Click on Save Option to finish.
Options will be closed.
That's it!

3. Install these fonts in your Netscape Navigator.
Click on Netscape Navigator icon to install Navigator;

Click on Option;
Click on General Preferences
Click on Font
Click on For the Encoding area
Click on Cyrillic (KOI-8 R)

Click on UPPER (Proportional Font Area) Choose Font...
In Font area click on Arial Relcom (or ER-Bukinist KOI-8)

In Size area click on 12 ;
Click on upper OK
Click on LOWER (Fixed Font Area) Choose Font... button
In Font area click on ROL-K8/Courier ;

In Size area click on 10 ;
Click on OK
Click on OK in the bottom of page to close Options
4. Change Encoding .
Click on Options to open it;
Click on General Preferences to open it;
Click on Document Encoding to open it;
Click on Cyrillic (KOI8-R)

Click on Options to open it again;
Click on Save Default to finish.
Options will be closed.
That's it!

SECTION 3: WRITING
You must download bilingual Russian-English keyboard switch WinKey by Gavin Helf.
To do that, click .
After clicking your computer begin to download file winkey.zip.
Unzip this file by the usual way in separate directory. Then follow instruction in README.TXT file.
If you work under Win95...
If you installed Microsoft Office or only WORD 7.0, you have already the keyboard switch.
