Canada to Mexico in 21 Hours

Below is a copy of my ride log for August 17, 1996. The primary objective this day was to ride from Canada to Mexico in under 24 hours. I chose Lethbridge, Alberta as origin to ensure the ride would exceed 1500 miles.

The ride was performed on a 1995 BMW R1100GS equipped with Bob's Wrist Rest and Bosch auxiliary lights.

All logged times of day are given here as MDT (not local) so as to correspond with most local times. The original log times were recorded in EDT from a single time source mounted to the motorcycle. All fuel receipts are hyperlinked to their stop location.

The elapsed time of the entire ride was 21:54 (Lethbridge, Alberta CANADA 17-Aug-96 11:41 MDT - Andrade, Ca USA 18-Aug-96 08:35 PDT). The actual time from ports of entry, to and from the United States, was 20:54 (Coutts, Alberta CANADA 17-Aug-96 12:41 MDT - Andrade, Ca USA 18-Aug-96 08:35 PDT).

The 1000 mile mark was made in approximately 14 hours. The 1500 mile mark was made in less than 22 hours. These times include the 14 minute delay at customs and the 34 minute delay for a special presentation from the Montana Highway Patrol.
