Anti-Racing
Statement: Garden State import Racing does not promote any form
of street racing. Aggressive driving on public roadway is not even tolerated.
Over the years, members have seen family, friends and innocent bystanders
injured and killed due to reckless activities of some. Auto racing is
inherently dangerous and proper measures must be taken to ensure the safety
of all. It is impossible to ensure that safety in venues other than those
designed for auto racing. Racing should always be done as sanctioned events
on non-public roadways. This is not to say that member have not participated
in these acitivities. The important part is that members have learned
from these mistakes. GSiR hopes that others don't have to learn the same
lessons the hard way.

Introduction:
Garden State import Racing is a highly active grassroots team in the NYC/NJ/CT
autocross scene. With a dedicated core team of talented drivers and clever
mechanics, the team has won numerous trophies at events.
History:
Garden State import Racing was started in by a group of Honda/Acura enthusiasts
in 1996 during the onset of import drag racing. Many of the original
members met over a chat room on the internet and organized a group trip to a
racing event at Maryland International Raceway. Inspirational names that
helped GSiR gain recognition and growth during the first years of Garden
State import Racing included Steve Lee, Ben Kirwan, James Long, Mike Liu and
George Rath. As import drag racing exploded over the years, several
members moved on with sponsorships were able to drive for other teams.
Garden State import Racing laid dormant during the 1999 season as several key
members decided further their paying careers.
Steve Lee, Jake Fisher and Mike Leung put forth an
effort to revived the name Garden State import Racing in 2000. Steve and
Jake had previously participated in autocross events while at college and decided
to shift the focus of the team to a more challenging arena and actually drive
the cars in something other than a straight line. Both recruited co-workers
and other friends to join the excitement and the second generation of GSiR was
born. During the inaugural 2000 autocross season, GSiR won over
25 trophies across the NJ/NY/CT region. The trophy drivers include Mike
Leung, John Ibbotson, Dave Ibbotson, Jake Fisher, Peter Lammey and Steve Lee.
Future:
The third coming of GSiR is about to start. Jake, Steve and Mike all got
a taste of the race track as they compete in numerous time trials at LimeRock,
Watkins Glen and Pocono. This taste has stirred thoughts of contending in racing.
Keep an eye on this web site during winter of 2001-2002 as Jake Fisher and Steve
Lee transform their daily drivers and weekend autocross cars into SCCA-spec
Improved Touring racers!
